Importing Data Using Zip Files with BackupMaster for Shopify
Introduction
BackupMaster automatically backs up your Shopify store to secure cloud storage every day, ensuring your data is always safe.
For most restoration needs, we recommend using our in-app features:
- Restore Individual Items: Quickly restore specific items.
- Restore Items in Bulk: Efficiently restore multiple items.
These options are quick and easy, and they should be your first choice if the app is still installed. However, if your store was closed or you’ve lost access to Shopify Admin, you can use a zip file to import your data. This guide will show you how.
Why Use Zip Files?
While our automated backups are ideal, zip files offer an additional layer of security in specific situations:
- Store Access Issues: If you can’t log into Shopify Admin or your store is inactive, zip files allow you to recover your data.
- Store Transfer: If moving data to another store, consider using our Clone Store feature for a more efficient process.
Downloading zip files is a helpful backup, but relying solely on them means missing out on the continuous protection of our automated backups.
How to Import Data Using a Zip File
- Open the BackupMaster Dashboard
Log into BackupMaster and navigate to the app’s dashboard. Click the Import button to get started. - Select and Upload Your Zip File
Choose the previously exported zip file, whether from this store or another. BackupMaster will upload and analyze the file, displaying the data categories it contains. - Choose What to Import
Review the data categories and select what you want to import. Then, click Confirm to begin the process. - Monitor the Import Process
BackupMaster will show real-time updates as the import progresses. You can close the window—the app will keep running in the background. You’ll receive a confirmation email when the import is complete.
Troubleshooting Import Issues
Technical issues on Shopify’s side may cause errors during import. These errors are complex and not always easy to understand, so we don’t display detailed messages in the app. If you encounter any issues, contact our support team. We’ll review the logs and guide you through the resolution.
Conclusion
While zip file imports are a useful fallback, BackupMaster’s automated backups and in-app restore features are your best bet for reliable data recovery. If the app is still installed, we strongly recommend using the in-app restore functions. If you need help, our support team is always here for you.
