To use the cloning feature, ensure the following:

  • Both Stores: BackupMaster app must be installed on both the source and destination stores.
  • Source Store: Must be on the PRO plan or higher.
  • Destination Store: Can be on any eligible plan.

Tutorial: Cloning Your Store

Note: For this example, we'll use "MyShopUS" as the source store and "MyShopEU" as the destination store. Replace these with your actual store names.

Steps:

1. Set Up the Source Store

  1. Navigate to BackupMaster:
    • Log in to your Shopify admin for MyShopUS.
    • Open the BackupMaster app by clicking on "Apps" in the left-hand menu and selecting BackupMaster.
    • Click on the “Clone store” button within the app.
  2. Confirm Your Store:
    • Ensure you are operating in the source store, MyShopUS.
  3. Enter Destination Store Name:
    • Input the name of your destination store (MyShopEU).
  4. Generate and Copy the Code:
    • After completing the setup, BackupMaster will generate a unique code.
    • Copy this code as you will need it for the destination store.

2. Configure the Destination Store

  1. Install BackupMaster:
    • Log in to your Shopify admin for MyShopEU.
    • Install the BackupMaster app by clicking on "Apps" in the left-hand menu and selecting BackupMaster.
    • Choose a plan and wait for the initial backup to complete.
    • Click on the “Clone store” button within the app.
  2. Confirm Your Store:
    • Ensure you are operating in the destination store, MyShopEU.
  3. Activate the Clone Code:
    • Enter the code you copied from MyShopUS.
    • Click the "Activate" button.
  4. Select Data to Clone:
    • Choose the data you want to clone (products, collections, pages, etc.).
    • Click "Next" to proceed.
  5. Start the Data Transfer:
    • Click the "Start import" button to begin the cloning process.
    • Monitor the transfer progress within the app. You do not need to keep the window open; you will receive a confirmation email once the process is complete.

Handling Metafields During Cloning

BackupMaster includes metafields during transfers to ensure all critical components and detailed custom information of your store are accurately preserved. Before starting the cloning process, BackupMaster will:

  • Check existing metafield definitions in the source store.
  • Automatically add the same metafield definitions to the destination store.

During the cloning process, as our app transfers products, collections, and other data, it will also transfer the corresponding metafields.

However, please note that:

  • If a metafield references a resource such as a product or an image in the source store, it will be impossible to transfer.
  • This limitation exists because Shopify does not allow references to other stores in metafield values, as these references are based on unique IDs specific to the source store.
  • Consequently, any metafield that includes such references cannot be moved to the destination store.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can effortlessly clone your Shopify store using BackupMaster, ensuring your new store is set up quickly and efficiently.
